I have never seen our culture, our neighborhoods, and even our workplaces so prepared to witness what Christians are for. Usually, the default opinion of the media and society is that Christ-followers are against a whole lot of things, posturing as the morality police to blow the whistle on a host of evils.
We’re a special interest group of “Againsters.” Against this and against that. We are perceived by many as a bunch of religious contrarians who love to claim the moral higher ground with divine authority.
But, thanks to the nationwide and worldwide crisis caused by COVID-19, we are poised to see many hearts and minds radically changed in their perceptions.
Because the love of Christ compels us, and because his love fills us, we have the privilege of displaying this beauty to a needy world, starting with just one person who needs your help and hope.
Show that one person what you are for. Show how you listen, sacrifice, retain hope, and give generously. Be real: talk of your need for prayer and solid counsel. No, we’re not strong while everyone else is weak. We are weak as well, but we know Someone who is strong. Everyone is grappling and searching. Show them the hope we have in a Savior who gives us everything we need for real life.
Are You a Christian?
I love the mental picture of an encounter by author Tim Hansel. He was seated on a plane reading his New Testament when the women next to him asked, “Sir, are you a Christian?”
His answer is unforgettable: “Yes, ma’am, right down to my toes. Right down to the marrow of my bones.”
This was an inner wholeness ready to jump at the chance to engage, converse, and witness. I believe many around us are asking, “Are you a Christian?” We can answer this with an outflow of joy, generosity, and humble hope. Our neighbors and families are poised to hear it as they have never been prepared before. Show them what you are for.
